In my view it is not abuse if you use an open hand (no implements!), do not hit hard enough to leave a mark and limit yourself to two or three spanks. In my experience, this type of correction works best to get the child's attention - the goal should not be to punish via pain.

I think that spanking a child on the bare bottom is not abuse. However if the spanking is done in anger it can lead to abuse. If the child is bare bottom, be careful at the force used to do the spanking. There should not be a red mark left on the child's bottom.

That depends on who you ask. Generally speaking, it's not considered very abusive to spank your child on the bottom with your hand, but parents have been arrested for less.

Yes. Any hitting of a child will only teach him to fear you and hit others once he's bigger than you.

No as long as you don't leave a mark. And only spank on the bottom, not the genitals.
