Although it is not deductible, payments to a child caregiver (including au-pair) can provide a tax credit (reduction in tax due). This child care must be performed to allow a parent to work at a paying job or attend school full time.

Salary paid to an au pair is deductible. The au pair is an employee of your household. You must deduct taxes and pay workers' comp, etc on behalf of the au pair. These payments are also tax deductible.

Yes, an au-pair can often be written off on taxes but only to a certain amount. There is an allowed deduction for child care and work related expenses in which this will fall into. Speak with your accountant to be sure you file correctly and you will need receipts and any other applicable information.
