In WWII, why did the U.S. have poor tanks?

The U. S. tanks were produced quickly and minimizing waste when possible to expand the number of tanks they could produce in the shortest amount of time. They had little time and resources were scarce, and so they were not as well crafted as the German tanks, but sheer numbers prevailed.

The American's fielded light and medium armored tanks in supporting roles. This strategy called for speed at the expense of armor, giving the false impression that America built inferior tanks.
