One could test a hypothesis using a g test, where observations are present or absent, independent of magnitude. Enumeration of the observations is not strictly required to test a hypothesis. For instance in biology one could ask the question, does protein A get expressed on the surface of cell type X.

i would depend upon observation. i.e this can be done easily in chemistry. This can be done easily in medical sciences.i would link my hypothesis to the actual situation and see if it fits. Then i would evaluate exceptions and see if they can be explained or not. Furthurmore, i would say that u can prove nothing without observation.
