It is easy to remove the paint from the roof shingles. Initially clear the upper layer paint by rubbing it with a smooth emery paper. Then apply any branded paint remover using a brush and let it for few seconds. The paint will start to melt then remove it using a strong metal plate. You are done now.

You should try turpentine and a metal bristled brush. The shingles are very tough and will not incur too much if any damage.

Paint shoppe paint remover is available. Replace the damaged wood roof. Sodium Hydroxide is used to strip paint, is an active ingredient in Drain.

You can CAREFULLY use something like Goof Off to dissolve the paint, but don't use enough to soak into the shingles as it will damage them.
