You will want to purchase a nice sized cage, food and a chewing post. You should also purchase some treats for the bird. Toys are always good, they like objects that make noise or something they can climb or gnaw on. You will also want to provide vitamin supplements.

Ensure fresh food/water, and 'stir' the food occasionally. They like company, talk to them often. Try adding a 'nest/bird-house', as some love it. Get a beak sharpener, similar to a salt lick. Ensure the cage is covered at night as it will sleep much better in absolute dark.

You'll need a cage; buy the largest you can afford. The cage should be placed against a wall, where there are no drafts, keeping the perch at about chest level. Don't ever reach inside the cage to grab the bird. Buy food and water, of course. And remember, Cockatiel are sociable birds who don't like to be left alone.

You should make sure the bird has plenty of seed and water. The cage should be clean very other day. Make sure the bird has few things to play with and perch on. At night place a cover over the cage so the bird will sleep. This also keeps the bird quiet while you are trying to sleep too.

Keep his cage clean and stick it in a good spot in the home like by a window. Feed him fruits, seeds, veggies and other nutritious table foods.
