Question by  eimtiyazahmad (50)

How much does it cost to have a freon charge for a car air conditioner?

The mechanic said that's what I need but he can't do it.

You can often do this yourself and only have to buy the supplies. Freon costs around $13 a can (3-4 needed) and the hoses are around $15-$20 I believe.

There is no standard cost. The price will vary depending on the year, make, and model of the car. Call local a/c shops to get price quotes.

The price of a recharge will vary depending on your location and the type of car. Contact several local auto shops to see what the charge. It may cost a lot if the car is older and must be converted to run on the newer style R134a refrigerant.

It will depend on how much refrigerant it needs and whether it needs to be converted or not. Call up your local a/c shops and get a quote. That way you get a good idea of what it will actually cost.
