Most of the time Malteses usually only have one or two puppies. Two is the most common amount they have. I have a Teacup Maltese that was one of four puppies, but larger litters aren't all that common. We also have another Maltese who was one of two puppies born. It's up to nature. Females are less common then Males.

Not medical advice: Maltese being a smalled breed can have anywhere from 2-6 puppies. Keep in mind that they are a smaller breed and have less space to carry a large litter.

A Maltese will usually give birth to 2-4 pups on average, but I have heard of litters of up to 8 being born.
