How many ounces are in 1/2 pound of meat?

There are 16 ounces in a pound, therefore a half a pound of meat weighs 8 ounces. For the purposes of cooking, the weight may be before or after cooking - check recipe. I have a cooking conversion chart which says a half pound of meat should measure about a cup.

A pound of anything, from feathers to bowling balls, is 16 ounces. A half pound is eight ounces. There is an old joke: which weighs more, a pound of feathers or a pound of lead? It is hard to imagine a pound of feathers, which causes people to get that wrong. But a pound is a pound is a pound.
