The incision site will normally be painful for 2 to 3 weeks after surgery, as long as the affected individual does not reopen the wound by lifting anything heavy or being overly active during their healing period

I had a four inch incision from the repair of a pregnancy-related hernia near my belly button. The site was noticibly painful for four days (had to take Tylenol 3 with codeine) and for about two weeks afterward was tender to the touch.
