Long division doesn't require much thought; its just systematically dividing numbers piece by piece. Dividing a polynomial is less mechanical and requires more thought. A polynomial has to first be factored and "prepped" for division.

You use the same symbol that you use in regular long division, but you can't just divide the polynomial into the binomial. You have to multiply the polynomial but the variable, usually x, to make it the degree of the digit in the binomial. The x to the power you multiplied it go one top.

you have variables in polynomails and you dont in long division plus you have more numers and it requires a lot more thought to the whole process before you actually work the problem out
