People on death row are unable to get out of prison and are waiting for the day they are put to death. Once they are put to death, there is absolutely no recidivism to worry about.
It's plain and simple - criminals who have been given death sentences will not commit crime again because they will be dead. Not to mention the fact that taxpayers won't have to feed them while they are in jail.
The death penalty, of course, totally prevents recidivism, because
the criminal is no longer alive and able to continue committing
heinous crimes against others. There are many who argue that
the death penalty is not a deterrent to violent crime, but execution
does permanently remove violent criminals from our midst.
First, those executed don't repeat offend. Secondly, in those states with higher death penalty rates, there is a corresponding longer incarceration rate for those guilty of other crimes. Because of the longer jail time, recidivism rates and crime rates in general are lower in those states.
