Checking tranny fluid is done with the engine and transmission hot, generally after a relatively long drive then with the transmission in neutral or park. Do not check fluid with a cold engine/transmission.

To check the transmission fluid, Pop the hood in your automobile. Then get out of the car and open the hood. Lock the hood with the latch so it does not fall on your head. Locate a removable dipstick that does not have an oil sign. That is the transmission fluid level.

Start the engine, pop the hood, look for a red dipstick that has trans written on it, pull the dip stick out, read it then return it.

Assuming it doesn't have the traditional dipstick, that means that you will have to put it on level ground and check the fill plug. You will have to look up the location but there should be a removable plug located on the underside of the trans. Remove it an observe the fluid flow and add mor if none come out.

There is a dip stick like when you check the oil. It is usually in the rear of the engine compartment. You simplly pull that out when it is warm to check the transmission fluid level.

If the car has a transmission dipstick, this is the easiest way. If there is no dipstick, then you have to use the drain plug located on the side of the transmission and physically feel the fluid level. Some transmissions are sealed and can only be checked by the dealership.

Make sure your vehicle is warm, find the transmission fluid dipstick, pull it out, wipe it off, put it back in, and read the results on the dipstick.

With the car idling and the transmission hot and in park remove the dipstick. Look for the fluid level, it should be in the cross hatched area.

Pop the hood to reveal the components of the car. Then locate the dip stick for the transmission and remove it. Wipe off the stick and dip it in the reservoir again. Read the level on the dip stick and judge accordingly to the notches. Then add or drain the proper amount of fluid to fix the issue.
