On the map there will be some bars in one of the corners of the map. Printed on the bars are distances. Measure the bars against starting and ending point on the map, then multiply by the distance and you will have your answer.

every map has a key and will tell you how to check miles or kilometers. for example 1 inch equals 10 miles, so measure the distance in inches with a ruler and multiply that by 10

Usually a professionally drawn map will show distances in some sort of scale ratio. On the side of the map should be a Key that shows you the meanings of the objects and symbols as well as a distance of how a many squares or inches equal one square mile.

Every professional map has a scale. It shows distance ratios. For example, one inch on the map can equal one mile in the actual place. Just use the scale.
