There are several ways to fade a font in Photoshop. The first way is to have change the alpha transparency of the layer that has the text on it although that has the side effect of changing the fade of anything else on that layer. Another way is to rasterize the text and fade the image itself.

To fade a font, you must select the font layer in the layers palette. Then, at the top of the layers palette will be an option to toggle the opacity of the layer. Lower percentage = more faded.

Text is created on a new layer in Photoshop. After typing your text, choose your text layer in the layers box and adjust it's opacity to make it fade.

There are quite a few ways to do this, however out of all of the options to acomplish this, the easiest way would be to change the opacity & use a semi-transparent gradient.
