You need to make sure that the jeans are clean so that way any spots will make the dye even. Then you buy a high quality dye and follow the instructions on the box for applying the color. Though make sure to research for the best dye for you before you start dying it.

First, rinse in a mordant, such as alum. To do this, add a tablespoon of alum to a tub of water. Insert fabric to be dyed, soak for 10 minutes. Remove from water. Empty tub. Fill with water and add dye. Soak denim for six hours. Remove and let dry.

I have dyed an old pair of jeans for a project my daughter has done. We bought a bucket from lowes and filled it with hot water. We used 1 packet of Rit for 1 pair of jeans. We dissolved the rit in water and added jeans for 30 minutes.

Use especial dyes for fabric only, be careful, as they're usually used with really hot water. Otherwise, get a professional to dye them for you, of course this would be more expensive yet would achieve better results.

RIT dye is an easy and inexpensive way to dye just about anything! You can do it in your washing machine, kitchen sink, or even in a bucket.
