NASA published a very detailed pamphlet to do this very thing. Go to their website to request a copy. The only special tool required is a Swiss Army knife.

You get a conversion kit made for the Galaxie that is premade from an after market manufacturer such as bear or wildwood. Or you can piece one together from a newer model vehicle like a Crowne Victoria. These parts can be purchased seperately from an after market parts store or go to a junk yard and get parts.

You will need, a duel reservoir master cylinder, a disc brake proportioning valve from a newer Ford, right and left disc brake spindles, rotors, calipers, new brake line. Measure the height of the existing spindle and compare that to the one proposed to be used for the swap.

Buy a Galaxie specific kit. Otherwise you have to build your own brackets, find the brake components, and modify the axle to get disks to fit.
