First, the bulb should be soaked in lukewarm water for a few hours. Next, plant the bulb in potting soil. Place in a sunny location. Bulbs will flower in 7-10 weeks. When the leaves of the plant begin to yellow, simply cut the greenery away to about two inches from the bulb. Store in the refrigerator for about six weeks.

An Amaryllis does not enjoy being fussed over. Find a large sized pot and place it in semi-shade.If you choose to plant your Amaryllis outdoors, leave it in a large pot and plant it to prevent rodents from eating the bulb and fleshy root system. Water once a week. Once your Amaryllis has finished flowering, cut off the flower stem.

Just plant the bulb in the planing medium, water but don't soak and keep in a warm sunny spot until it flowers. You can save bulbs for the next year.
