I have thickenend frosting by adding a teaspoon of powdered sugar and mix it into the frosting. Add a teaspoon at a time until it is the right consistency.

Both homemade and store bought frostings can be easily thickened by the gradual addition of powdered or confectioner's sugar until the frosting reaches the desired consistency.

Thicken it by adding powdered sugar. Start by adding a little and stirring it well. If it is still not thick enough then add a little at a time.

Beat in a quantity of softened butter. Have the butter at room temperature, then add the butter to the frosting one tablespoon at a time.
