How can I tell when my guinea pig is going to have her babies?

I know she is going to have babies but I want to be ready when the time comes.

Like most animals, your guinea pig isn't going to want to put on a show for you. If she's close to her due date, and she seems reclusive, its a sure sign. Usually, my pigs begin frantically nesting. They seem to get these bursts of energy just before start laboring, so watch for that.

65 days is the normal gestation period for guinea pigs. That estimate is only good for you if you know the exact date that she mated.

A widening pelvic bone will produce a visible gap which readies the pig for the birthing process. The guinea pig will exhort a loud groaning sound just prior to birth.

It's hard to tell. Gestation is about 60-70 days. Treat mumma carefully now and babyproof your cage now (cover small holes with cardboard). Separate the sow from any males as she will go into heat shortly after birth and backbreeding is dangerous. Have a vet on call, too.
