You don't have to, but it is tradition to wear black or other muted dark colors. In some non-Western cultures other colors are associated with death and may be worn. In Western countries, however, it is considered tacky or disrespectful to wear bright colors that draw attention to oneself. Black accurately reflects the solemnity of the occasion.

No. Black is the traditional color to wear to funerals, however it is not a must. In fact, some people prior to death request otherwise. Family members have been known to request otherwise.
