Black is always appropriate, it is very classy looking and fine to wear to an evening wedding reception. Could be summer or winter spring or fall and I think black is always good.

It's perfectly acceptable to wear black at night. Black isn't just for funerals and sad times. It can often look sophisticated when worn at an important event such as a wedding.

These days, black is appropriate for almost any event. Since the reception is in the evening (and I assume to the dressy side), black will be just fine.

Black is fine for a reception. The only time it's not okay is if the reception is going to be a white colored theme.

yes, that would be fine. The only role of thumb is not to wear white and show up the bride.

In certain cultures like an American culture black is seen as the color or mourning. So wearing black to a wedding is inappropriate. Now black in Chinese culture is seen as happy and inviting, and the opposite of that would be white for mourning.
