Current Research points to an answer of yes. Children under two years of age who have slept with the light on were 5 times more likely to become short sighted.

I personally don't think so, unless the child is trying to read or play in the dimmly lit room. However, back in 1999 Philadelphia researchers found a strong correlation between nightlights and poor eyesight, so there is a possibility.

The should not affect anything unless the nightlight is directly exposed to their eyelids (at a range of less than 3 feet) during the first 5 weeks of life. Normal nightlights should be fine, but might affect sleeping.

Some scientific research shows that the children who sleep with night light on in their room may develop short sightedness later on. If very dim light is used there should not have any problem. Children who wake up at night will get scared in the dark room, which will also affect their health.
