Most non-Orthodox Jews do believe in evolution, and see the creation story as a non-literal tale of time but rather an expression of the importance of the creation of light and darkness (in a figurative sense). Many Orthodox Jews, however, are biblical literalists and do not believe in evolution, but rather that the world was created in 6 days.

Some do. Very Orthodox and literal interpreters of Genesis tend to believe the earth is very young and that God made Adam and Eve directly, disbelieving evolution. However most Reformed, less strict Rabbis and their congregations have no problem with evolution. Maimonides, a famous rabbi in the Middle Ages, believed evolution did not contradict Genesis.
