PSA is a protein produced by the cells of the prostate gland, they have everything to do with the prostate. Rising levels of this protein can indicate prostate cancer as well as other prostate problems.

High PSA levels, in fact, define the presence of prostate inflammation. If you have an inflamed prostate, treat it as your doctor recommends. High PSA levels, however, can also be a sign of prostate cancer, so be sure your doctor does the proper follow-up tests.

A PSA level or Prostate Specific Antigen level is a marker of inflammation of the prostate. It is often present in prostatitis and benign hypertrophic prostatitis, but can also be a marker of a prostate tumor. It does not provide a definitive answer, but doctors use it in guiding their treatment decisions in detecting and preventing prostate cancer.

Yes, the higher the PSA level, the more the prostate is inflamed. High PSA levels should always be followed by a physician.
