Can you help me with some suggestions for designs for a fishing birthday cake?

Use one round cake for a fish body. From a second round cake, carve a two-fin tail. Used the leftover wedge as a fin on top of the body. Before decorating, hide a few plastic fish inside the cake, and have a contest to see who "catches" the biggest fish.

Some creative ideas for a fshing cake could be a lake put on the cake with a huge fish in the middle. Or have a fish with a hook in its mouth and a fisherman in the background smiling wih a fishing rod in is hands. I'm sure your father with really enjoy a creative cake like that.

You can take a square cake pan and shape the cake just like a fish. While painting the cake you can get some gray icing or they also have spray colors and shape an icing hook in the fishes mouth. Depending on the type of fish is how you will paint the cake.

I would suggest a cake shaped like a fish, with as much detail as you can. Add a small candy boat with a fisherman to the top and have the line from his pole run to a candy "hook" in the fish's mouth - so it looks like he is landing a true "keeper"
