The presence of a nasogastric tube is not considered mechanical life support. The type of tube is not necessary to keep someone alive. However, an endotracheal tube is considered life support. This tube goes into the lungs and is connected to a breathing machine, aka ventilator.

Basic life support gadgets such as a ventilator provides mechanical oxygen to sustain breathing. Nasogastric tubes lead directly to the stomach and cannot be used as such.

Well, naso means the nose. Gastric generally refers to the stomach area. So I would say no it would not work. That seems to be more for investigation of the stomach for say, an ulcer or stomach blocks that can not be seen with an ultrasound. Doctors are always happy to answer these questions.

Nasogastric tubes are commonly used for nutrient intake and are considered a form of life support. They can temporarily aid in mechanical life support if no equipment is availabe.
