Yes,dogs understand simple so keep the words basic, like say sit,not sit sit. Maintain eye contact, call the dog by his name and issue the command. Example Fido, sit. Reward and repeat command

Studies show that any dog of any age can be trained to follow commands, including trigger words. Training young, smart dogs is easier but all can learn.

I have done this successfully with not only older dogs, but cats! I would suggest you google some methods and choose the one that works best for you and your canine friend. If you have a K-9 unit nearby I would buddy up to them and ask their advice, they train with this method and know it well.

Yes! Actually it's probably easier on the dog to have a one word command than a long sentance. Most dogs hear trigger words whether we intend for them to obey or not, such as 'sit' or 'stay'.

Dogs of all sizes and breeds have one thing in common, the need to please their owners. With hard work and patience your furry friend can learn trigger words for tricks, behavioral traits, and obedience. Professional dog handlers have used trigger words for years to control the security dogs used by many businesses. Remember to use rewards and be consistent.

Yes you can and the best way to do it in a short period of time is to use what is called clickr training everytime the dog gets it right click the clicker and the dog will come to you and you give it a treat.
