1. Be patient. 2. Don't try to make it tight. The tighter you knit, the more you'll hate it. 3. Have fun! It's a long process but it's worth it!

First, start with a smaller project. This will help you learn to knit but not overwhelm you. Next, be sure to completely read any instructions for the project you will be working on. A knitting book that teaches through illustration is also good to have.
