Can a cats claws damaged the paintwork of a car & cause small chips in the paintwork?

have a car which has ended up with small chips over paintwork, sure it has been caused by a pet cat as the car has been parked for some time now & not driven after it was detailed & chips were not there, can cats claws cause chips in the paintwork?

A cat's claws can cause the chips you describe because the scratching goes all the way to the primer and scratches that too. Then the elements such as rain and harsh sunlight undermine the paints ability to bond to the metal causing it to flake off especially if the cat's paws creates a closed pattern.

A cats claws can create scratches in the paint's surface. Over time these scratches can network together and eventually chip the paint off.
