Are tomato hornworms poisonous?

Answer by  shil (171)

Tomato hornworms are actually not poisonous. But as they feed on toxic tomato leaves, they get toxin from the tomato plant itself, which is midly toxic. This toxin is actually not so dangerous.

Tomato hormworms are the young form of a sort of moth often eaten in other cultures both in hornworm and adult phase, and instructions for cooking are available. Pets are not harmed by eating them uncooked though I do not know of any humans who eat them without cooking them first.
