I haven't been able to find any information that the injections are painful. As far as if they help or not, those reviews have been mixed as well. Some people say they work right away and others say they don't work. I suppose it depends on the person.

Like any injection, patients often experience some-discomfort during an initial-injection-procedure. Patients with allergies/infections/skin diseases should AVOID! Synvisc or Synvisc-One are most-effective for patients with mild to medium osteo-arthritis.

They are not any more painful than any other type of needle or injection. As for the effectiveness, it really varies from person to person. Some find that they help a lot and others find no relief. There is no way to predict which on you are going to be.

Synvisc injection has been used in condition such as arthritis. It helps to minimise the symptoms of arthritis and delay knee replacement surgery. The injections itself should not be painful but will be uncomfortable. It also helps to reduce the pain from the arthritis itself for about six months from the injection.

Just had Synvisc One injected in both knees. The left was painless even when they injected the gel. The right had no pain from needle but mild pain when they injected the gel. After a minute or two the discomfort goes away and you just feel the pressure in knee.
