Gila monsters are highly venomous. Their venom is powerful enough to kill many large mammals. They are largely harmless around people unless antagonized. They can and will bite you if you enrage them and it will not end well for the human involved. Avoid direct contact with Gila monsters if at all possible.

Yes they are venomous. They are native to southwestern US and mexico. It is a slugish creature and is not a huge threat to humans. It is protected by law in some states. If you are bitten you may have to submerg the gila under water to make him let go.
