Would pleco fish be a good choice for my first aquarium?

Yes. These bottom dwellers are peaceful and can be placed in a tank with other peaceful species. However, they can be slightly territorial with their own kind. They are easy to take care of and are "cleaners" - they keep the bottom of the tank nice and clean. They will eat a variety of food. Long lifespan also.

yes plecos are very hardy fish for beginner aquariums. They are alage eaters and can be seen sucking on the glass of the aquarium. This does not mean that they will clean you tank of all algae. They are not aggressive towards any fish and work well with community fish.

Plecos grow up to be very large and you would likely end up needing to get rid of it. A chinese algea eater is a better choice.

I myself would not get one. They are alot of work.I would recommend just starting out with either guppies or goldfish.
