With MS symptoms, does a change in white matter on a MRI help confirm a diagnosis of MS?

I got a copy of the MRI results but have not talked to my doctor yet.

Yes, change in the white matter on a MRI exam is one of the signs of MS, as the condition usually results in the degration of myelin that covers neurons on this part of the brain. Other tests might help like Visual Evoked Potentials (ask your doctor).

While white matter on an MRI can suggest MS, it is by no means definitive, and must be weighed with a number of other factors before reaching a diagnosis.

White matter on the MRI can possibly be a sign of lesions on the brain. This is commonly how Multiple Sclerosis is diagnosed.
