Why would a check engine light go on in a Honda Civic?

The check engine light indicates a problem. Check the computer for codes, fix the problem, and clear the codes. This will make the light go back off.

in most cases it is a bad sensor on the engine.try to check the sensors for cracks or damage "melted wires" if that dosent turn anything up u will have to take it to a garage and have a diagnostic test.they should be able to turn the light offtemporarily if not fix the prob.may also be bad oxygen sensor
