Why would a CD rom stop reading disc?

there will be dust in the mechanism, try cleaning the cd rom from air compressor. otherwise your cd rom mechanism is damaged, replace it.

If the CD Rom has stopped reading your disks then it has probably gone out. If this is the case, you will need to contact a dealer about a new one.

One possibility is that the disk has become scratched. The CD rom reader may need to be cleaned or have its alignment checked. Also see if your software has updated, then roll back the update.

It could be that the CD rom you are trying to use is scratched or damaged in a way that the laser in your CD Drive can not read it. Try cleaning the CD with a soft cloth.
