If it isn't sending texts, you may need to do a master reset on the phone. If this doesn't work, take it in to where you got it and they should give you a loaner phone while they fix yours.

Text messaging is considered data and if you are using another carrier's phone on someone else's network you may have phone service but your data will not work. It is important when shopping for phone to stay with your carrier's phone so all services work.

AT&T/Cingular has a very complex netword. One of its primary functions is to find unlocked phones. If your phone has been unlocked, the network can sense the software change in your phone and will be unwilling to cooperate with the network. You will need a branded AT&T Cingular phone, untampered with to send messages.

There must be a SIM card inside the phone and it must be activated on Cingular with a texting plan. Text messaging should not be blocked via Settings or some other form of blockage and the monthly bill must have been paid, and no money should be owed on the account.

To figure this problem out, you need to contact either the seller that you purchased the phone from to let them know that there is a default where you cannot send texts. Or you need to contact your wireless provider to have them assist you with the problem.

there is an error in the software. When unlocking a phone, software can become messed up. There are 2 ways to remedy this, connect your phone to your computer and reinstall the software if possible, then unlock the phone again, or take your phone to a technician.

If your line is not setup with a texting plan (which does happen from time to time, even happened to me) you will not be able to send or receive text messages. That's not to say that you have to choose an amount of messages, you can choose pay-per-use.
