Why won't my dog stop panting?

Is he sick?

Answer by  bubbyboy (9929)

Some dogs just pant from being nervous. The dog could also be in pain or have too much thyroid activity. When in doubt, get it checked out.

Dogs pant instead of sweating. It is their way to cool themselves when they are too hot. However, dogs should not pant all the time, and never should pant when they sleep. If your dog seems to panting too much, you should visit the vet. Your dog may simply need to lose a few pounds, but you should check.

Yep, if they pant when they sleep...feel around their throat for a bulge or puffiness...could be lymphoma. It took my dog from me at age 11.
