Why is the alternator in my Chevy Suburban not charging?

It is most likely the voltage regulator (located in the alternator) has failed. If you are a DIY'er, you can take it to most auto parts stores and they can test it for you. It's hardly worth the effort to replace the voltage regulator yourself, unless you have the special tools to do it.

Check and see if the switch for the overhead light or some other light in the car has been left on and the bulbs are burned out. This will drain your battery while the car is not on.

Well it probably need replaced or rebuilt. You could tear it done and rebuild it in some cases but it may be better to just go buy a new one with a warranty. Make sure all your connections are solid before replacing though. One loose wire may be the cause.
