There are many reasons the Xbox 360 will freeze. Fortunately, a lot of the reasons are fixable. One thing that can cause it to freeze is simply overheating. Make sure the xbox is in a well ventilate area and make sure it's not sitting on the floor. Overheating is one of the more common issues.

one problem could be how old your system is. Sometimes the older models can handle the strain of the graphics of the newer games. Also, if your system is old it could be close to the dreaded red rings of death. Another problem could be the firmware you are using. Try connecting to xbox live and getting an update.

I have heard of a lot of xbox 360's freezing up. In order to diagnose your problem, you can check the round lights on your unit. If each section of the round circle is red you have a problem.

Your Xbox 360 may be freezing due to overheating. In an attempt to keep this from happening, keep your system in a well ventalated area.
