More than likely you are needing to change the transmission fluid and filter. Saturn uses an easy to change spin on transmission filter and dexron fluid. I also recommend disconnecting the battery while doing this because it is an adaptive transmission.

Harsh shifting can be from old dirty fluid, plugged fluid filter, mechanically worn internals, or bad electronically controlled components in the transmission. Always the best thing to do is to service the transmission. Which can smooth out the engagement between gears and save you thousands from paying to have your transmission rebuilt.

You probably have a leak in the automatic transmission vacuum sensor and the fluid is too low to function properly. Make sure to check the level WHILE the vehicle is running, and add fluid to the proper level. Then take the vehicle in for repairs.

Though there are many possible reasons for this, the most common reasons are problems with the pressure control solenoid or possibly the valve body is going bad.

well the first question that comes to mind is, is it a manual or automatic? if its an AT then you could be low on fluids or your transmission is about to go out. the best way to check is to take it to a certified mechanic and have them run a diagnostics on it

Usually when an automatic vehicle is not shifting normally it is the result of low or dirty fluid or a clogged fluid filter.
