Your dog might be having bladder control issues during the night, hence he can't hold it and remains asleep. You can take it to the vet to be sure.

There are many possible causes for this, including urinary tract infection, seizures, hormonal imbalances, back injuries, or even a bladder tumor. It could also just be a result of aging. Since some of the causes are very serious, you may want to take the dog to a veterinarian.

Older dogs may lose bladder control when sleeping, or at later stages may never be able to control their urine even while awake. There isn't much to do about it except bed him down on washable fabric.

Your dog may be at an old age where he simply cannot wake up to let you know he needs to go out.
