Why is my computer turning all Word documents into Wordpad?

Assuming it's XP, Word is installed, and files are *. doc Go to Control Panel, find Folder Options, click File Types tab, verify that the. doc extension points to MS Word.

You should check how you are saving them. Make sure that you are saving them as. doc and they will be Word documents.

Your computer probably has any text documents defaulted to open in wordpad. If you look in the control panel, you should be able to find default settings. Change text documents to default open in Word.

One of the reasons may be because the default program associated with the 'doc' file on your system is Wordpad. You can modify it.
