If you want your pc to hibernate; in Windows xp go to control panel,in category view, pick, performance and maintenance,power options, hibernate tab, check enable hibernation.Click okay.

More often than not, power management issues are caused by device drivers and programs. Try uninstalling or updating any recently installed programs and checking for updated drivers for your computer.

Either because the settings for your computer have been changed to where there is no screen saver or power saver set or you have a virus.

May be your system has virus affected, else check it whether your mother board all software is installed or not? this is main reason for not working the standby.

Standby may be disabled on your computer, if you have windows, go to the control panel then power options, check if standby is set to never.
