The most likely cause of screeching on start up is a loose or worn belt. Loose or worn belts can cause your air conditioner compressor, alternator and generator to not work properly. Another possible cause is a worn out starter. If the starter is worn it can seize up and quit working. Both should be checked by a mechanic.

That noise is generally related to a loose, loosening or severely deteriorated belt with in the engine. You should have it replaced soon.

Well usually a screech on start up is caused by a slipping belt or worn accessory bearing. Sometimes though it could indicate a spun bearing or other internal problem. I would take it to a mechanic and get their opinion.
