You have no control over how another person chooses to react. Only You choose how to react to others. You should explore why your emotions lead you to why you feel this way. You may be unconsciously selecting relationships with the types of people that make you feel this way.

I think it's because of the intimacy and closeness that it is involved in opening up to another person, every little flaw can occur to your partner even if you are aware of it but you can't hide it. So of course self-esteem can be affected.

You need to look very carefully at the person you have the relationship with. Why do they effect you like that? Why do you let yourself be treated that way?

It is not normal to "freak out" or lose self-esteem in a relationship. You might be experiencing these things because you are being made to feel inferior to your partner.

Because you love that person and you want that your relationship can be one of the best relationship in the world. Loosing self-esteem sometimes is just fine. Freaking out mostly happen when you guys quarreled and have misunderstanding. But all of it can be handle fine later on.
