Why don't snakes poison themselves?

Is the poison in their bloodstream?

Snakes are venomous not poisonous. They produce the venom in special glands. If a snake ingests some of it's own venom, the digestive function will neutralize the toxins.

Yes, the venom is in the bloodstream. However, most snakes that are alive today probably have an evolutionary mechanism that prevents them from being affected by the poison.
