A government only works as a fair system of law and order when it is not tied to religion. This is one of the aspects of government that allows us to have freedom. Not everyone has the same religious beliefs, and it would be wrong to try to force anyone to follow your religion.

Governments should exist to maintain the rights of life, liberty, and property. Thus a government should punish murder, which is also one of God's laws. The government should also prevent slavery and punish theft. However, religious laws often differ from those laws in a number of religions. What is a sin is not always a crime.
