Why does poison ivy give you a rash?

Is it an allergic reaction?

The rash is caused from a substance found on the plant called urushiol that causes the skin to become irritated which results in a rash as the skin reacts to the substance contacting the skin.

Yes, poison ivy creates a rash due to an allergic reaction. There actually are people that do not react to it, as they are not allergic to the 'poisonous' oils.
